T.Long | Feb 03, 2010

I am aware that some of these songs bleed into the 70’s, but they mine the same vein.
Just looking at the who of your list, I can suggest some alternatives.
I feel that Last Train to Clarksville is a better song by the Monkees. Also, Take A Giant Step, a somewhat obscure song by them, is enjoyable.
Long Cool Woman by the Hollies is vastly superior to Bus Stop.
While Groovin, is a great song, it is very laid back. The more rockin’ Good Lovin’ would be a good alternate.
While Mr. Tambourine Man is a great track, I prefer Dylan’s own version. I would suggest an alternate by the Byrds with Eight Miles High. Also, the reconstituted countrified version of the Byrds had an interesting song with Chestnut Mare.
Another interesting song, that was not a hit and that I recommend as a supplement to your choice, is Dancing Bear by the Mamas and the Papas. It has a very dreamy, sad kind of quality that pulls you in.
I do prefer Without You, by Nilsson to your choice.
You might want to check out Temptation Eyes by the Grassroots as an alternate to Let’s Live for Today.

Now here are a few others
Red Rubber Ball – the Cyrckle
Dirty Water – The Standells
Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks
Sunday and Me – Jay and the Americans
Summer in the City – The Lovin’ Spoonful
Just a Little and Laugh, Laugh both by the Beau Brummels
Long, Long Time – Linda Ronstadt
Different Drum – The Stone Poneys
Jenny Take a Ride! – Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels
Hang On Sloopy – The McCoys
Hello there,

That is a pretty good mix. I liked all of those songs back then. One obvious omission: the Beatles. They did have a lot of hit singles. In 1964 they pretty much dominated the charts. Day Tripper was a big hit and was released as a single. Later, Hey Jude, was a big hit when released as a single.

Now for the others: Atlantis by Donovan. That was a big hit. It was covered by local bands everywhere I went.

Knock on Wood. Eddie Floyd song. Later Otis Redding did a great cover of it. One of those two versions would make a good addition to your list.

I Heard It Through the Grapevine. Marvin Gaye’s cover was the best. You should consider adding it to your list.

You probably should have something by the Four Tops in there. I Can’t Help Myself was always my favorite. Did not spend as long on the charts as some of their other songs, but I still think it was their best.

Need some Wilson Pickett. Try Mustang Sally. Great groove.

Need a little more British Invasion hits. Some Eric Burton and the Animals. Take your pick, any of these three are great. We Gotta Get Outta This Place, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, or House of the Rising Sun. Maybe some Zombies. Either of these: She’s Not There, or Time of the Season. British Invasion list would not be complete without the Stones Satisfaction. Chad and Jeremy Yesterday’s Gone. Gerry and the Pacemakers Ferry Cross the Mercy (one of my personal favorites).

The list seems a little short of American rock. Need some hot rods and surf. Try the Beach Boys Surfin USA. and Jan and Dean’s Little Old Lady from Pasadena.

Heavy rock had some big hits in the 60s. Cream Sunshine of Your Love. Jefferson Airplane White Room. Big Brother and the Holding Company Piece of My Heart (released on an album Cheap Thrills, no single). Of course there was that acid rock blues guitarist. He put out some big hits in the late 60s. Don’t recall any singles. Just the same, Purple Haze or Hey Joe is worth a mention. Steppenwolf Magic Carpet Ride.

Roy Orbison (you gotta love that voice) Pretty Woman is worth a mention.

How about some Four Seasons. Always loved Sherry. And the Happenings See You in September. What a great song.

An early 60s hit was Chubby Checker’s Limbo. What a party favorite. Also his Twist. I embarassed myself with that one.

You already have one by the Mammas and Pappas, but I think you might consider adding Dream a Little Dream. Heck of a song.

Oh man, I forgot Wooly Bully. Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs. Johnny Rivers had a lot of hits in the 60s. Take your pick they all are great: Secret Agent Man, Tracks of My Tears or (my personal favorite) Poor Side of Town.

Again from an album, the Chicago Transit Authority Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is. Great song. Great album. After the CTA album they changed their name to Chicago. It was a studio album. When I saw them live, it was terrible. They could not capture the sound from the studio. We started yelling for B B King to come back on stage.

How about Crosby, Stills & Nash Marrakesh Express.

You have one by Dion, however, the song that meant more to me was Abraham Martin and John. Sad times. Hauntingly beautiful song.

How about the Association Along Comes Mary. Garry Puckett and the Union Gap Young Girl. Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine by the Fifth Dimension. Probabl should add some Simon and Garfinkel to the list. Bridge over Troubled Waters was quite a hit. I always liked Scarborough Fair.

And of course, your list does not have an Bob Dylan on it other than the Byrds cover of one of his songs.

Man, what a great decade to be young. Great times. Great music.

Later,

Hello again. Senility must have set in. How can I talk about 60s music and forget Louie Louie by the Kingsmen. After all the time I spent chatting with those guys, how could I forget to include them.
Based on the best-selling book “The Ultimate Gift” by Jim Stovall, the story sends trust fund baby Jason Stevens on an improbable journey of discovery, having to answer the ultimate question: “What is the relationship between wealth and happiness?” Jason had a very simple relationship with his impossibly wealthy Grandfather, Howard “Red” Stevens. He hated him. No heart-to-heart talks, no warm fuzzies, just cold hard cash. So of course he figured that when Red died, the whole “reading of the will” thing would be another simple cash transaction, that his Grandfather’s money would allow him to continue living in the lifestyle to which he had become accustomed. But what Red left him was anything but simple. Red instead devised a plan for Jason to experience a crash course on life. Twelve tasks, which Red calls “gifts,” each challenging Jason in an improbable way, the accumulation of which would change him forever.

Question for hunters: How do you carry a deer carcass from the woods?
Assuming you’re in the middle of nowhere in the woods, no major roads nearby, what are some common methods that hunters use to transport their dead game, especially if it’s heavy?

Thanks!

You should summon the Dark Magician!
Yugi Moto | Feb 03, 2010

 Um, a wheel barrow?
Why would you be in the middle of nowhere with no roads hunting? You should know where the closest road is and just drag the fker over to your jeep.
Z0mGSauC3z | Feb 03, 2010

You can ‘field dress’ it, which means you take out the guts on the spot.
That takes off a surprising amount of weight.
If it’s still too heavy, you can take off the hind legs, and toss those into a separate sack.
Between two guys, you can usually handle most things this way.
Ultimately, you just carry it out though, or to an ATV you have nearby.
Daniel D | Feb 03, 2010

I am not a big hunter but we gutted and took offf the legs right there in the forest, then we carried the meat… the body, and the head.
obitrice | Feb 03, 2010

over the shoulder-cut them up b4 leaving the hunting site-dragging them on a garbage bag to the other side–
meanddave | Feb 03, 2010

as far as I know, they drag it…

?????????????????///
gw | Feb 03, 2010

Hey! hunting is not all that terrible (certain animal populations would get way high and definitely not good without hunting) only poaching is bad!!!!
anyway… im not positive but my dad hunts and if the animal is too heavy he would, uh, cut it up (eeeeww) then and there then like put the meat in bags and pack it out??? or drag it with a 4-wheeler if they are allowed in the area.
bookworm | Feb 03, 2010

 Glen’s Deer Handle.

Or make your own, a foot long piece of 1 1/2" PVC pipe, and a length of rope.
Jennifer | Feb 03, 2010

In areas where Elk and larger deer or other heavy animals are hunted, you will find an abundance of "Game Carts" readily available—see Cabelas, various other vendors. When all else fails, dress, cape, pack or drag !
Falcon16 | Feb 03, 2010

I’ve hunted for a long time. And I have used every method known to man to get my deer out of the woods. Here’s a listing.
Grab the horns and drag it out.- Hardest and slowest.
Tie a rope to a small limb about 18 inches long- tie to deers neck and drag it out. This is only slightly better then the first method.
If hunting with a buddy, cut a pole and tie the deers front and rear legs to the pole. Put the pole on your shoulder and you and your buddy tote it out- This method is about the worst method possible.
Use a deer buggy- carry your stand and essentials in with you on the buggy and when you make a kill, load the deer on the buggy and pull it out- This method works great, especially if the woods are flat and not boggy.
Best method possible- use an ATV to go get your deer. Carry a small limb saw with you to cut out a trail when it gets too thick to go through it with your 4- wheeler. Most of the time you can go over it or around it to (the thick spots ) to get to your deer. If you can’t, use the saw to open up the trail for the 4-wheeler. But no matter how far back there or how hard it is, if you take your time it may take most of the day, but you can get your deer out of the woods. It’s just a labor of love.
dumdum | Feb 03, 2010

I have just dragged my animal and I have used used a "canvas drag" to drag my kills out. Canvas protects your meat and is easier to tow.
I have taken smaller deer and placed their front legs through the rear where the tendon separates at the joint, pinned the front legs with sticks and pack it out like a backpack.
I have quartered larger animals and packed it out on a meat pack a quarter at a time.
I have also boned out the animal keeping only the edible parts. when you pack out meat ensure you protect it with cheese cloth or black pepper to keep the blow flies off.
You may find it harder to "age" your meat if it is not whole or in quarters.
Archer | Feb 03, 2010

 I don’t carry my deer, I drive them out on a 4wheeler.
Deer Hunter | Feb 03, 2010

I usually throw mine on an ATV. If there is snow on the ground, I just tie it behind and drag it.
mack_9 | Feb 03, 2010

When I was young I field dressed it and carried it out

my parents want me to get out of horses. advice?
i’m a 17 year old senior in high school living in a crowded town on the jersey shore. ever since i was little i’ve loved horses with all my heart. i collected toy horses, i drew them, i colored them, i squealed every time we passed them on the road – hell, i even commissioned my dad to make a barn for my toy horses. i begged and pleaded and begged some more to be allowed to get riding lessons since before i can remember, but my parents never gave in. they always gave me different excuses, like "it’s too expensive" or "it’s too dangerous" or "there are no horses where we live." none of these excuses were true – there are few horses in my town but the surrounding areas are full of them. it can be dangerous, sure, but walking out to the mailbox can be too, and riding lessons aren’t -that- expensive, and were even less so at the time. but no matter how bad i begged, they didn’t give in until i got a friend to help at 13. for graduation from intermediate school, they finally let me take lessons from the local barn.

i spent a year there and learned very little. the barn was just.. not working out. you know the kind i mean. there’s nothing really wrong with it, it’s just the instructor doesn’t pay as much attention to her students as she should and most of the boarders have attitudes. i stopped going there. it took over 6 months to get back to riding, even though i’d found a barn within only a couple weeks of my last lesson at the first barn. i was at this barn for a few weeks and my parents forced me to stop for the winter. i continued riding there in spring, and rode there for maybe eight months. i loved it. i learned a lot there and got to do fun stuff – the instructor was great and the other people at the barn were wonderful. i stopped taking lessons there last january, said my dad: "for the winter." i took one lesson in march and stopped. i asked to go back, my parents ignored me.

i found a cute anglo-arabian for half lease in my area at a decent price. my dad humored me and we went to see him. he was a cutie. that deal fell through, though not on my end. the second time i checked out a horse to lease – a cute little full arabian gelding, full lease and SUPER affordable (read as: $150/month full lease.. they pay all vet/farrier/food/etcetc) at a really chill barn, the owners of which would bring me & horse to trails on weekends if i asked – i tried him out, liked him, and it looked like the deal was sealed. we were just going to go home to talk to my mom and my dad was going to call back. he never did.

i brought up riding repeatedly since then. i mentioned a lease once after that last one and got the ‘the economy is shit, can’t afford it’ talk. fine. i didn’t bring up leasing again. i just brought up lessons repeatedly. response: "you don’t need lessons, you already know how to ride." i’ve never jumped more than a crossrail, though, and please don’t ask me to ride anything bareback because i need a lot of work without stirrups and such.

this is the same guy that tells me i can do whatever i want to do and then picks on me for wanting to make a career out of equine studies.. "there’s no money in that!" and "you’re from new jersey, not kentucky!"

..fine. so i’ve already decided, since i can’t go to college for what i want, i won’t go. if i can’t get lessons and can’t lease a horse, i’ll have to find another way to get on a horse. so i did. i found a nice barn and emailed the trainer, and she’d take me on as a working student. in exchange for my help around the barn, i would get lessons. no exchange of money. i thought it was a brilliant idea – i just got my license so i’d be able to drive there myself and everything. i thought i was pretty smart.

response: "you’re not using that car to drive 20 miles away to work like a slave and not get paid. no." what i have tried to explain and have failed to make them understand is that the opportunity to ride and learn and learn training techniques and such is good enough payment for me. getting paid in cash would just result in me turning around and spending it on riding lessons anyway.. i’d get more out of NOT getting paid in cash..

they bitch that i never get out of the house. well, yeah, i just got my license. before that, i couldn’t go anywhere because my dad’s always working and my mom just doesn’t drive anymore, idfk why, which is why i get to use the car now. i just only get to use it to go places my parents want me to, though, so if my mom needs to go to shoprite i have to drive her there even though she is perfectly capable of driving her own damn self but god forbid i actually want to enjoy my last year before going out into the real world..

what do i do? this has been on my mind for so long and it’s really dragging me down. i miss horses so much and have tried everything i know, but everything i’ve tried has backfired on me. i’m so tired of feeling like this. i’m a a mature, intelligent, and well-behaved 17 year old girl. i don’t get in
CONTINUED: i’m a a mature, intelligent, and well-behaved 17 year old girl. i don’t get in trouble, i don’t hang out with people i shouldn’t. my grades are acceptable and i don’t do stupid shit in school. admittedly i am not the most academically motivated – in fact i’ve never cared less about school, it isn’t like i have anything outside of it to keep me going – but i’m not a BAD kid. i don’t deserve to be miserable, and i have been. i have been for a while now.

i just don’t understand.. nothing i do, nothing i say, no deal i try to cut is good enough.

i need advice. please.
this isn’t about college, really. i’ve already made up my mind about that – i will have to get extremely lucky or meet some people, lmao.. i’m most interested in the training & instruction aspects of equine studies but could settle for barn management. i try using vets and farriers as examples to combat the ‘there’s no money in it’ argument but nothing. my dad is pigheaded and stubborn as a mule. he’d rather see me go to med school or law school, or ART school.. anything that doesn’t involve horses. if i go to school for equine studies, it will be in many years, when i can completely pay for it myself.

i’m thinking short term at the moment though.

note: ironically, my dad thinks that because i can draw, i should go to school for art. i can only draw HORSES, and nothing else.

Well, I think there comes a time when you just have to accept the fact that your parents don’t support you in this, either as a hobby or as a career choice. Whether or not they can afford it is really not relevant. Whatever the reason, they just don’t support it.
In order to make it happen for yourself, though, you would be required to work at a paying job that will make you enough money to completely support yourself. You will turn 18 at some point. Your parents may be willing to let you live with them and cover your room and board, but if you aren’t in college pursuing a career they support, they may want you to pay room and board. At any rate, if you could do the working student arrangement in your free time, you would be pursuing your dream. In the meantime, you need to finish high school if you haven’t already, but after you graduate, if you work full time and do the working student arrangement, there will be no time for college even if your parents are willing to pay for it, or with scholarships to assist.
As far as the car you are driving, it sounds like it is not your car, but you are allowed to use it in trade for running errands, which is a fair trade off. You’d have to work a lot of hours to earn enough to afford to own a car. Unless you can afford to pay your own insurance, plates, gas, and maintenance on the car, you are lucky to have use of one at all.
Your parents want what is best for you, and putting money into an education in a field that is already being flooded with too many graduates as fewer jobs are available and the economy wanes is not something I would support either.
Kids grow up and the free ride ends, and you have to be prepared for adulthood and the responsibilities that come with it. Being able to earn your way is the major issue facing you if you want to find a way to pursue your dreams. You may need to rethink your plans and adapt to the reality that your parents are just not on board, and you’re not a little girl anymore. Until you are fully financially independent from your parents, they will continue to have a say in whatever choices you make.

**********************************************************************
ADD…..just realize that the choices you make over the next few years will have a major impact on predicting your future.
Years pass in the blink of an eye, and choices that present themselves while you are still receiving financial support from your parents can and will go away. If you want to get a realistic perspective on where society is headed, and on what professions/jobs are likely to be in demand in your future, I suggest you read the book "The World is Flat" by Thomas L. Friedman. A big part of your ability to pursue your interest in horses will depend upon your ability to afford it, so focusing your energies on making the right educational choices now will go far to assure you of a more successful future.

It’s that old guy he keeps seeing and giving alcohol too. He takes the credit for the killings so he can take the credit for the paintings and become a famous artist. The movie is about how art is totally subjective, this is no "good" or "bad" art.
